      for Koko Barnes


No finer thing can happen
to walls in a kitchen

than to seem this wet
with light–the two of us

within them growing
suddenly aware

of being outnumbered
by the spoons.

Her work is forthcoming in Boston Review, Colorado Review, TriQuarterly, New England Review, The Journal, National Poetry Review, and elsewhere, and has received awards from Poets & Writers, The Elizabeth George Foundation, The Atlantic, and North American Review. She works at a publishing house in New York.
