All those fires
my father

kindled with
yesterday’s news

as I watched
the pages blacken

and flap, then
rise as crows.

This poem began as an image in a long sequence about my dad. The sequence never found its way into form, but the image kept calling to me. Eventually, I listened.

BIO:

Josh Booton is a graduate of The Michener Center for Writers at The University of Texas at Austin.
