There is no other place:
the bearing of it. My belly
is a split log. Again and again.

Again and again, then: your cry, your fall
from me. There’s the world & then
there’s this: you mucky bundle, you sudden boy.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

As a new mother, it’s not easy to find time to work a poem or even to find both hands free for pen and paper. The challenge of 140 characters or less was a welcome one; I could work on a snippet while nursing Arlo, going for a walk, or falling into a much needed nap. Of course my new babe permeates my thoughts, so this poem (and all poems, ever) is for him.

BIO:

She holds an MFA from Northern Michigan University, where she served as an associate poetry editor at Passages North. Aubrey lives in Iowa with her husband and their new son Arlo.
